Everything you need to know about IMPULSES.ART and how we can support your healing journey.
IMPULSES.ART is a professional music therapy project combining live piano with psychological, scientific, and artistic approaches. We specialize in supporting emotional healing, resilience, and cultural integration for immigrant and refugee communities, while remaining open to anyone seeking therapeutic benefits through music.
IMPULSES.ART is led by Ernesto Cisneros Cino, a pianist and composer with three decades of international experience in music and therapeutic practice. Learn more about his work and background at ernestocisneros.art.
Sessions are tailored to individual or group needs and typically include live piano improvisation, active listening, and participatory dynamics. We integrate complementary creative modalities such as painting, drawing, creative writing, and audiovisuals to deepen the healing experience.
Research demonstrates multiple benefits of music therapy:
• Mental health improvement and emotional regulation (AMTA, 2020)
• Trauma recovery and resilience building (Bensimon, Amir & Wolf, 2012)
• Enhanced social integration and sense of community (Koelsch, 2014)
• Neurological benefits and brain health (Levitin, 2006)
Live piano allows for real-time musical adjustment based on participants' responses and emotional feedback. This dynamic, responsive relationship between musician and participants creates a therapeutic feedback loop that recorded music cannot replicate (Bruscia, 2014).
We conduct sessions in Spanish and English. Professional interpreters are available for other languages upon request to ensure full accessibility and comfort for all participants.
We offer both. Group sessions foster social cohesion, shared healing, and community bonds—particularly valuable for populations with collective cultural backgrounds. Individual sessions provide deeper personal focus and allow for highly personalized therapeutic work.
Sessions are held at community centers, educational institutions, churches, cultural venues, and other community spaces. We also offer virtual sessions that maintain the quality and interactivity of live music therapy.
No, our services are open to anyone seeking music therapy. However, we have a special focus on immigrant and refugee communities, recognizing their unique needs and the particular power of music in facilitating cultural resilience and integration.

No. IMPULSES.ART provides a complementary therapeutic approach that works alongside, not instead of, professional mental health treatment. We often collaborate with therapists and counselors as part of a comprehensive healing journey.
